Automated capacity boost at MSK Plast Oy AB

MSK Plast Oy AB, a leading player in the plastics industry, is renowned for its commitment to high-quality standards and its ability to deliver reliable solutions to its customers. Faced with growing production demands, MSK decided to enhance its production line by investing in a second paint robot. The goal was to reduce cycle times while maintaining the exceptional quality their clients expect.


Eksar AB was entrusted with delivering a comprehensive solution centered around the ABB IRB 5500 paint robot. Beyond the physical installation, Eksar also managed project planning, configuration, and system integration.

Technical Information:

The project’s centerpiece is the ABB IRB 5500 paint robot, designed for precision and speed, making it ideal for demanding coating applications.

  • ABB Robotics Components: The robot features ABB’s advanced drive units, air control, and bell systems, ensuring exceptional precision and quality in operation.
     

  • POMA Systems GmbH Components: The solution includes gear pumps and valves specifically tailored to meet the rigorous demands of plastic coating.
     

  • Integrated 2K System: Equipped with pumps, mixers, and color change valves mounted directly on the horizontal arm, the robot enables precise color changes and optimal process control.
     

  • RobotStudio Integration: Eksar developed a comprehensive RobotStudio framework that supports program conversion, redundancy, and production simulation prior to implementation.

  1. Products are transported to the coating zone via the existing conveyor system.
     

  2. The ABB IRB 5500 works in parallel with the existing robot, applying paint with high precision.
     

  3. The robot handles color changes and application parameters via its IPS system, ensuring consistent coverage and superior quality.
     

  4. Once coated, products are transported for further processing.
